Frequently Asked Questions:
What does Soapbox Soaps mean their soap is “all natural”?
The base of their soaps are made with all natural olive, coconut, soybean, and corn oils and scented with a blend of all natural essential oils. Soapbox Soaps include organic shea butter and unrefined sea salt both of which provide natural benefits for your skin.
What is the benefit of sea salt?
Sea Salt is a natural exfoliant and is an important ingredient in every one of Soapbox Soaps bars. The texture of the sea salt is smooth to the touch so it can gently slough off dead skin cells, and soften tough skin. Sea salt is made by taking water from either oceans or saline lakes and letting the water evaporate to leave the salts behind, whereas table salt is mined from salt deposits in the earth and heavily processed to produce “clean” salt.
What is the benefit of organic shea butter?
Shea butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree (Butyrospermum parkii), which grows in the savannah of Western Africa. For millennia, people have used it to protect their skin from the drying winds and sun as well as to heal many skin problems, minor cuts and burns. The shea butter Soapbox Soaps uses is certified organic and is included in every bar of soap they make. Shea butter has a natural richness in essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamin E and D, provitamin A and allantoin, all of which have been used to improve the general health and wellness of skin.
Where are Soapbox Soaps products made?
Their soap is produced in Michigan City, Indiana.
Are Soapbox Soaps gluten free?
Their soap is completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals including wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, Malts and triticale.
Are Soapbox Soaps palm oil free?
Yes. Palm oil is an edible plant oil and is derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palm. It is often used during the production of soap because it is a highly saturated vegetable fat which is conducive of the saponification process. The use of palm oil in food products attracts the concern of environmental groups due to the concerns that the high oil yield of the trees have led, in parts of Indonesia, to removal of forestry in order to make space for oil-palm monoculture. SoapBox Soaps has decided not to use palm oil due to these ethical considerations. Instead they use a combination of olive, coconut, soybean, and corn oils.
Are Soapbox Soaps vegan?
Yes. SoapBox Soaps has been certified by PETA as cruelty free and vegan friendly. Soapbox Soaps loves their furry friends and want to make sure that their team is the only ones testing their products. To be granted certification a company must: guarantee that no animal testing is conducted or commissioned for finished products or ingredients in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories or suppliers; obtain assurances from its suppliers and intermediary agents that no animal testing has been conducted on its behalf after a fixed date; and agree to independent verification of this policy and its application through an audit program.
Do Soapbox Soaps contain glycerin?
Yes, Glycerin is a natural part of the vegetable oils Soapbox Soaps uses to make their herbal soap, so it is a natural part of all SoapBox Soaps. Glycerin soap is gentler on skin than most soaps, making it a good choice for people who have particularly dry or sensitive skin. Soapbox Soaps qualify as “glycerin soaps,” because glycerin accounts for 9-10% of the final product. Unlike most commercial soap companies, Soapbox Soaps retains all glycerin produced during the saponification process. Since glycerin is a sellable commodity, commercial soap makers remove it for sale, or they keep trace amounts so that they can mention it on their labels. Soapbox Soaps differ from clear “glycerin soaps” because their bars are not transparent. To produce their transparency, “glycerin soaps” contain a sugar-alcohol compound that can dry your skin.
Do Soapbox Soaps contain lye?
The final product contains no lye. All soap, including SoapBox’s products, are made using lye (NaOH, “sodium hydroxide”). Even transparent “glycerin” soap and “melt and pour” soaps are made using lye. (Transparent glycerin soaps are made from oil and lye, like opaque soaps, except that a sugar-alcohol compound is added to maintain transparency.) In a properly produced soap, lye is a raw ingredient, but there is no lye that remains in the final product. All lye is consumed in the saponification process and presents no danger to you. Superfatting further ensures that all lye is consumed. Any company that claims their soap is not made with lye is either promoting false information or doesn’t understand the chemistry behind soap.
Is Soapbox Soaps' packaging sustainable?
Soapbox Soaps' packaging is made using 100% recycled fibers and an average of 35% post consumer recycled material and printed using vegetable based inks. Post consumer recycled materials are things like old corrugated containers, old magazines, old newspapers, office paper, old telephone directories, and residential mixed paper. Its just another way Soapbox Soaps is doing their part to keep the planet healthy.
Good. Clean. Soap.
Soapbox Soaps products are ethical, environmentally friendly, and natural...they are also great for your skin.

Our original team at Soapbox Soaps started off not being able to be all the places we wanted to be. We were individuals with strong voices but still limited in numbers. That was until Ian Powell, our Central Coordinator at Soapbox Soaps, came up with our Brand Ambassadors program. Powell, working with college campuses nationwide, sent out applications to students interested in representing and embodying all the qualities that we stand for at Soapbox Soaps. These qualities are goodwill, determination, and dedication. With these qualities in hand, our brand ambassadors will start their own movements in their specific locales. They will talk to past, current, and future consumers in order to spread our message of improving the global healthy crisis as well as providing a luxury item. Their goal will be to educate, to listen, and to develop. And they will do this in their personal free time with no other rewards besides the fact that they are doing good. They will be Soapbox Soaps champions when we cannot physically be there ourselves.
