About Bakery On Main
It all started in the small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Customers with Celiac Disease would visit the bakery and talk about the lack of good tasting gluten free options available to them. Upon learning this, Bakery On Main believed that nobody should have to suffer due to any kind of food allergy or dietary need. From then on, their mission became creating delicious and fearlessly unique gluten free products that were good for you and great tasting- while still being safe for celiac customers!
Audaciously premium ingredients, bakeshop recipes, and happy customers were their inspiration from the beginning— and are still the cornerstones of Bakery On Main today. They are a fiercely ethical company that believes in integrity and feels that happy and healthy should be harmonious. They strive for that in everything they bake in their dedicated gluten free facility where they use only natural, Non-GMO Project Verified ingredients that are also dairy and casein free.
Their passion has always been to bring their customers delicious baked products made with clean and natural ingredients. Their goal is to make you happy while helping to clean up their food supply and provide everyone with products that can be trusted by those who need it and delicious to everyone who tries it! They hope that enjoying their products makes you as happy as it make them!
Try it over yogurt, as an ice cream topper, or straight out of the bag!

It all started in the small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Founder Michael Smulders listened to his Celiac customers complain about the taste of many of the gluten free options available to them. He thought that no one should have to suffer because of a food allergy or other special dietary need, and made it his mission to create products that were good for them but taste like they aren’t.
Late in 2003, after tasting a granola recipe one of the bakers was working on, Smulders said, “these gluten free people need granola!” He walked through the store and gathered ingredients and baked the first batch that day. It took almost 2 years to find gluten free sources of all the ingredients and find a place where we could make the product without risk of cross-contamination.
Three years and two bakeries later, their gluten free granola is made in a 34,000 square foot manufacturing facility with state of the art quality controls and in-house gluten testing on every batch. Located just a few miles down the road from the original bakery, the plant maintains the small bakery quality by continuing to bake in small batches.
