Full Circle - Fresh Air Kitchen Compost Collector Green Slate
Full Circle Fresh Air Kitchen Compost Collector is odor-free. Goodbye, garbagey smell. See ya later, fruit flies. Say hello to the Fresh Air compost collector. This means that food decomposes more slowly and stays drier during the composting process. The result? Less mess, less odor and no flies. The Fresh Air Kitchen Compost Collector is constructed from recycled plastic and stainless steel, this compost container includes five bags that can go in with the compost. Assembly level/degree of difficulty: No Assembly Required.

What's So Great About Composting?
For starters, there really is nothing better for soil than compost. It not only loosens clay soils, but it helps sandy soils retain water. And best of all, it contains no petroleum-based compounds, as many commercial fertilizers do. Gardens that use compost produce much higher yields of healthy fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Plus, landfills across the United States are running out of space. In fact, according to a recent EPA estimate, almost a quarter of the garbage in this country is composed of food scraps and yard trimmings. Believe it or not, that's about 60 million tons every year. So if you're not composting yet, it's definitely time to start.
What If I Don't Have A Yard?
Maybe you live in a city apartment or in a home without a yard. Our cities are getting more progressive every day, and it's more than likely that yours has a community composting center. Check out Earth911.com or the EPA for local resources in your area.
Here's a list of household items that can be composted:
- Coffee grounds and filters
- Tea and tea bags
- Crushed eggshells (but not eggs)
- Cardboard rolls, cereal
- Boxes, brown paper bags
- Clean paper
- Paper towels
- Shredded newspaper
- Fireplace ashes
- Wood chips, sawdust,
- Toothpicks, burnt matches
- Cotton and wool rags
- Dryer and vacuum cleaner lint
- Grass clippings, yard trimmings
- Hair and fur
- Hay and straw
About Full Circle's Materials
When choosing any material that goes into Full Circle products, they ask themselves two questions—where does it come from and where will it go?
By creating products with naturally occurring materials, such as bamboo, cellulose and loofah, Full Circle knows what will happen when those materials are eventually composted. They will break down into—you guessed it—smaller pieces of bamboo, cellulose and loofah, which will fully biodegrade.
Of course, they also want Full Circle products to do a great job in your home (since they are, after all, cleaning tools) so every product Full Circle makes has to perform well and be extremely durable.
That means that Full Circle selects their materials based on performance and durability, using sustainable materials wherever possible. For example, they've created a unique bristle blend for their brushes - natural plant-based fibers are absorbent so you use less soap and recycled plastic bristles are tough & durable, but easy on the earth. So not only do their products work great, they last longer and they generate less waste.
In short, you win, your home wins and the planet wins.
Bonterra, meaning "good earth," is a material that comes right out of the good earth; it's derived from the cellulose and starch in plants. It looks and feels just like plastic, and like plastic, it can last for years and is even dishwasher safe.
However, unlike plastic it is not made from petroleum. Petroleum? Yes, petroleum. You may not be aware of it, but most of the plastic we consume is derived from petroleum. In fact, about 10 percent of all U.S. oil consumption goes into making plastic. And every single piece of petroplastic produced-since it was developed in the 1950s-is still around in some form today. Seriously. And unlike petroplastic, Bonterra takes less energy to produce and emits fewer greenhouse gases during production. Looks like Bonterra definitely has an edge over traditional plastics.
Don't get them wrong, plastic was an amazing invention for its time. It revolutionized industry around the world and allowed important advances in both science and medicine. But now that we've developed sustainable alternatives, it's time to move on. And at Full Circle, moving on means making products from renewable and biodegradable resources that also work well and look great.
You may already know that bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on Earth. It's actually been clocked growing as fast as 47.6 inches in a 24-hour period. No joke. This makes bamboo one of the most renewable resources around, and it's why you'll find bamboo in so many Full Circle products.
Here's some other fun bamboo facts: bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, which means that it doesn't require pesticides or fertilizers during cultivation. And bamboo is actually a grass, not a tree—so it doesn't require irrigation, which saves water and energy. In short, it's a wonder resource.
To minimize transportation (and thus, fuel costs and energy waste—a few of their favorite obsessions) Full Circle make products very close to where their bamboo is harvested. To keep your bamboo products looking beautiful avoid prolonged soaking and try applying a natural cream or oil.
About Full Circle
A life cycle. Every product in our homes has one—from a scrub brush to a sponge. They're designed and manufactured, serve out their purpose, get old and are thrown away. In the US alone, if one scrub brush per household gets thrown out every year, that's about 120 million brushes ending up in the garbage.
Yes, you read that correctly—120 million.
And most of them are plastic (petroleum-based plastic) which means it takes about 1000 years before they start to break down.
Yes, you also read that correctly—1000 years.
But what if there was a scrub brush made from sustainable, biodegradable materials? One that would eventually break back down into those same biodegradable materials? And what if it was made in a factory with great working conditions and higher environmental standards? And what if it was ergonomic, worked great, and looked terrific in your home?
Well, that's pretty much the thinking behind Full Circle.
You will notice on Full Circle's packaging that they say "Sustainable. Made in China." Many might think these two things are mutually exclusive, but that is up to the manufacturer. They look at the environmental and social practices of their factories to ensure they are up to standards. And more importantly, Full Circle is on the ground making sure factories keep up those standards. Want some examples They thought you'd never ask...
- Full Circle sources raw materials close to where all of the processes and packaging is done to minimize transportation.
- Full Circle ensures scraps and waste materials are recycled.
- Full Circle uses recycled and FSC certified paper for our marketing materials and packaging
- Full Circle audits their factories according to the following: fair labor practices, health & safety, compensation & work hours, environmental conditions including air and water, as well as waste disposal.
- Full Circle is not perfect and does not claim to be, but they do closely monitor the environmental and social impact of their products.
Full Circle looks forward to expanding their initiatives and welcomes comments or suggestions. That's just the kind of company they set out to be.
Only use compostable bags with this product. Regular plastic bags do not allow the Fresh Air Compost Container to work its magic. (Look for the ASTM 6400 certification) Place bag inside Fresh Air and secure with wire rim. You won't have to go digging for it later! Collect kitchen scraps & organic waste throughout the week. Lift rim to pull out bag and throw in your compost pile or city green bin. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Rinse (or throw in dishwasher). Repeat. Dishwasher safe. Replacement compostable bags available at most grocery and hardware stores. Intended for indoor use.

About Full Circle
It’s a simple reality: our product choices are limited to what we can find on store shelves. And more often than not, products that are the most accessible aren’t always the most eco-friendly. Or good looking. That’s just the way it’s been for ages.
But the game has changed—with Full Circle’s line of stylish, functional products made from sustainable and renewable resources. Like scrub brushes with sleek, bamboo handles and sponges made from cellulose, a plant-based fiber. We’ve even made pot scrubbers that fully biodegrade! (As you can see, we’re really into this stuff.)
Important behind-the-scenes changes are happening here, too—such as improved working conditions, cleaner manufacturing methods and higher environmental standards. Even our suppliers have come around to our way of thinking. (We’re kind of persuasive that way.)
At Full Circle, we believe in constantly striving to do things better. Because while there may be a finite number of resources in the world, there’s an infinite number of ways to use them more wisely.
And figuring out how to do that is what gets us up every morning.
